Perry is she is Chicago native who was born to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Her first appearance was in the television screen as Jackie Harris, a character that was played by her mother on her role on the ABC sitcom Roseanne. Her parents, however, were not keen to let her pursue acting until she became an adult, fearing the effects of stress. Perry she was shy for acting in school, began performing at Northwestern University because she wanted to make new friends. Perry, after graduating from Boston University, relocated in New York in search of TV roles. Perry was able to land small roles on shows such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent. However, homesickness brought her back to California in search of theater jobs. Her mother and she appeared on Broadway with her in The Other Place, in 2013. In the year 2015, she was with Kevin McKidd alongside her mother in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prizewinning drama Anna Christie. It is part of the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble is located in West Los Angeles. Perry played a lead role in nine episodes in 2016 of ABC's drama The Family. In 2017 she had her own recurring part on The ABC political thriller Scandal with her father. She played the younger Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon. This spin-off series of CBS's The Big Bang Theory was another portrayal by her younger mother. The character was chosen by auditions, even having a strong association with it.
